examinations. I understand from Mr. Bromley that the Ambassador, who has been consulted, has just replied to the effect that no such entity exists.
The G.M. C. suggested as an
alternative that H.M.G. should, on the analogy of the Czecho-Slovak Government in this country, grant special degrees to such students. I have asked Mr. Bromley not to reply to the G. M. C. until we have had an opportunity here of considering the question and he will let me have a copy of the Ambassador's telegram. It seems to me that the first step is to consider whether we can usefully create some body in China which would represent the University for the purpose at any rate of conferring medical degrees, and this in turn will require further consultation with the Ambassador.
There is also Sir W. Peel's
letter at 40 on this file. I asked Mr. Bromley to hurry up their reply to Sir W. Peel, letting him have a copy of the report, and I suggest that the reply to Sir W. Peel might take the lines of the attached draft.
